The name “Nahargarh” means “abode of tigers” which is derived from the ancient Hindu language, which translates to “tigers rest” or “resting abode of tigers“. Nahargarh Fort is a historical fort situated on the Aravali hills in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. History

Nahargarh Fort was constructed in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and served as a defense of the city. Its most recent use was in 1857, when the rebels led by Man Singh II and Thakur Kushal Singh laid siege to the fort, seeking to regain the kingdom of Jaipur. The siege lasted four months until the Maharaja of Jaipur capitulated, and Nahargarh became the new home of the rebels.

During the time of the Rajput rulers, the fort was an important center of trade, entertainment, and military. Nahargarh Fort is also called “Tiger Fort” or “Tiger Castle” as it is situated on a ridge, resembling a tiger’s back.
